Katanai jumped from treetop to treetop. She reached a small part of the park she had never seen before. Before she could think, she was falling. No trees?! She landed on top of a rock this time.
She watched as Aurora began to shake. The ride on her shoulder had shook her up a bit. She gently lifted her small cat down. She patted Aurora on the head as she began to explore the new territory.
She pounced into a field of flowers. She looked stealthily back and forth as she took in the sweet aroma around her. She smiled. *Peace at last* she thought to herself.
She had finally found a place to be alone and in peace.

Forget it. Forget them. Nothing mattered except escape from life that is. A solitary place. The one thing he needed but did not have. And that realization was motivation to keep on running. Run away from them. Those that care only for themselves. Those loud creatures who found enjoyment in the constant bickering that drove him to the depths of insanity. And for what? Nothing. Everything always led back to nothing. Continue running and keep on living. Away from them and all their worthless practices.
And while he loved them dearly, he hated their guts and wished they'd die. Painfully.
Long gray-white hair rose in the wind, never settling around his shoulders as his quick motion or moving forward continued. Continued. His pink eyes were clenched shut, not caring if he ran into anything. All he needed was that silence. Beautiful serenity of the world around him, which had longed for the past few hours until he could take no more, and leaping from his window, went to find salvation. Mother nature and all her glories.
Slowing to a halt, he found himself in an area which was not familiar at all. A small brook bubbled and laughed at his feet, an aroma filled meadow stood across from him.
So this is where freedom had taken him.

Kat now sat crouched, back against a tree. She was just glad to be away from the school. Away from all of those people that treated her so horridly. She smiled slightly at her solitude.
Her cat-like ear twitched. Someone was coming. She looked and saw a boy with silver hair. She had never seen him before. He seemed to seek the same solitude as her.
She made a handsign. Soon enough as she said the words "cat's eye", she was staring at him with red eyes that had her symbol swirling around as her pupil.
He was nothing suspicious as far as she desired to seek. She then leaped into the lowest branch of the tree. Her silverish hair began to blow with the wind as she stood up.

He often wondered if his parents cursed the day he was born. Ill children have always been pitied and looked down upon since the day the first one came into existence. Squatting at the edge of the gashing liquid, he plunged his hands beneath the surface, admiring once again the pure whiteness that appeared to be an apparition. A ghost. For that was all he was. A figment of everyone's imagination, there for a minute, but when looked at directly, no longer there.
Amazing, isn't it? When you don't really exist.
And out here...he didn't. Living and existing were completely different ideas. Thus: there were days when he lived, and days when he existed. But never together.
Casting his eyes away from his own skin, he looked slowly up at the girl who had been studying him for the past few minutes now. Let her look. In the end, it wouldn't matter what either of them thought of each other.

She closed her eyes. They were now growing a bit tired. She still heard his thoughts. They matched hers quite well. She was an outcast. A downright nobody. Just because of ears and a tail of a cat, she was a total no one. She felt that this boy, this one person, knew that feeling as well.
The corner of her mouth turned up slightly. She then said, "Hm. You and I are more alike then you think...." She lifted her head, eyes still closed. She then opened her eyes which were their usual sparkling ruby. Her eyes hardly matched her personality. They stood out as if they were purposely trying to be noticed.
She tucked her silvery hair behind her ears. She stood out with her looks. She hated standing out. She just wished that all of humanity would just leave her alone half the time. She hated all those stuck up people that commented on her looks. She just wished that she could be left alone. ESPECIALLY that annoying teacher Kurenai. Kurenai annoyed her so much that she could rip her own hair out.
She watched as Aurora pranced over to look at the stranger. There was just something about this guy that reminded her of herself.

The tiny beast scampered over to him. A cat. Of all the animals, it had to be a cat. Sure, they were fine...but he preferred other creatures. Felines were far down on his list. But he rubbed under its chin before pushing it away. There was no need to cuddle with a pet that was not his own. And flicking the hair from his eyes, he stood, shoving his hands into his pockets in the usual manner, and looked at the girl.
Apart from her feline ears and tail, she looked like a regular human being. Not knowing her, it was unclear whether it was a clan thing or a birth defect. Either way, it was unnatural, a perversion of society's nature. But what was wrong with that? The word was filled with such people. If only...if only it hadn't been "cat." But if he found nothing wrong with her personality, he could ignore that fact and talk normally with her, so long as she was able to do the same with him.
Not that it mattered much if she could. No one ever did, and he was fine with that. It meant he didn't have to talk. But one never forgets the feeling of eyes upon you for your abnormalities. She, of course, would know that.
He would not be the first person to say something. He never was. Why should he be? He wasn't interested in anyone other than himself and his special people (which were few in number). If a person wished to converse with him, he or she would have to be the one to initiate it.

Katanai sighed. She let out a small whistle as she moved her finger slightly. The small cat came back towards her. She jumped out of the tree to greet her feline. Aurora jumped onto Kat's shoulder. She then looked at the boy with her mouth turned up slightly. This boy was more like her than anyone she had ever met before.
She decided to introduce herself. She tucked her silver hair behind her ear. "Katanai. Misarashi Katanai. And you are?" She commonly asked. She looked at him. One hand was on her hip and the other at her side. Her crimson eyes were soft for once- her defenses down.
She didn't as much as flinch as her cat jumped up on her shoulder. The cat sat there, looking at the boy with more curiosity than Kat herself. She was, however interested. She had always wanted to meet someone in an offbeat place such as this. She only had one friend, Azumi, who she met in the hustle and bustle of the night in the park.

"Kato Seishiro," he responded out of politeness. He had no reason to start up a conversation with this girl. If she so desired it, he'd be willing to talk to her, but only for a short while. Solitude and silence was what he had ended up here for. Not socializing. But he'd entertain her if it meant life would go easier. For him. He didn't care much about her except for that toleration of strangers.
Having stood for a moment, he squatted down again, shifting the weight to his heels before wiggling his fingers in the small stream. If he paid no attention to her, perhaps she'd go away. Though she didn't seem to be the type of person to do so. No. Rather, she struck his as persistent striving forward until she reached her goal.
He'd deal with her for now. But once she started getting annoying, or he started getting bored, he would be out of there as politely as possible. The world revolved around manners. You couldn't get anywhere without them. Plus, using them provided an advantage to the user.
Lifting his chin up, the hair fell from his tired-looking quartz pink eyes, and he stared at her until she began to talk again.

Katanai smiled. *Seishiro. I'll try to remember that.* she thought to herself. She had never been alone with a guy that had not tried to ridicule her about her ears and tail. He was mature and kind. He had manners!
Katanai looked over at the cool stream. Closing her eyes, she imagined herself dipping her hand it. A few seconds later, she saw herself quickly retracting it. She had never put her hand in water if it wasn't for a bath. A bath for her was a once-a-day dreaded activity. She HATED water- it was part of her cat-like instinct. She had never tried or wanted to try playing with water or in water at all. Her cat felt this way too. Lucky for Aurora, she didn't have to take a bath every day.
She lifted her head. Soon after, she opened her crimson eyes. She saw Seishiro looking at her. *Does he want me to... talk? That's something people never want of ME...* she thought to herself.
She examined him, this time, without Cat's Eye. He had the same color hair as her and nearly the same eye color. She then decided to ask for his grade. That was a more casual way of asking for someone's age in her opinion. Her mouth curled upward on one side. "Do you go to Konoha High?" she asked. She then added, "Sadly, I do..." She added in a mumble, "School. It's just a place for people to act like idiots, socialize, and make fun of others... like me..."
She clenched her fist. Her eyes gleamed with pure hatred as she thought of those kids from school. She was glad that next year was her last with them. She then thought of college and her hopes were destroyed. Being a junior, she had still about five or six years before being out of school completely.

"Ah," he whispered, looking down again, "I knew I recognized you from somewhere. I'm a senior at that rat's nest called a school. What about you?"
Courtesy answers and courtesy questions. Even if it was a conversation that he had unconsciously encouraged, that was all he would give her. So that was all she should expect. There was no point in talking to this girl who wasn't an important person. Not to him, at least. Perhaps to someone else. But no, and probably never, to him.
Then again, knowing all the people at that garbage pit, he wouldn't be surprised if there was no male figure who thought her wonderful and beautiful.
And only because she had furry ears and a tail.
Not his problem, though. So thinking this, he stood again, his knees aching at the strain he had been putting on them. Slipping his dripping hands into his pockets, he cast her a look saying that she could walk with him should she please to, and took off walking down the brook.

Katanai followed Seishiro after his encouraging look. She then said, "I'm a junior at that so called, "school". She smiled. She was glad that she finally found someone that hated Konoha High as much as she did. That place. It just brought her much hate, discomfort, and unhappiness.
She sighed. She'd only ever walked alone before and this place was very serene. She glanced at the boy. He looked familiar. She could swear she had seen him in the halls, or maybe just on the courtyard, cursing the school.
Katanai didn't even flinch as her cat, Aurora, jumped up onto her shoulder. The cat seemed to say, 'Who is he? Where are we going?' The cat had a skeptic prickle to her fur right now. She calmed her by stroking the small creature's black fur.
Looking back at Seishiro, she smiled and said, "I just wish that they would treat people humanely... the students, I mean. The teachers are paid to be annoying anyway. I often give both of them a hard time but still..."

"That puts of close to the same age," he murmured, shrugging off the statement with a bored look foreword.
There was nothing to do. No. There was plenty to do and so little time in the world to do it. It was life. Life with a bang and an occasional event here and there. Just as shadows turn to gray and the fruits of summer faded away, such was the existence of all creatures big and small. And thus, none of it mattered.
There was no reason to respond otherwise to her words. He had given an answer, and that was all that had been required with him.
Courtesy demanded that he remain with her until the two of them had nothing left to say. She seemed, he thought, not talkative, but having much to say and no one to say it to. So he would be with her for quite some time as they kept each other in miserable company.
At least...
He was miserable company. Far from being the social butterfly, he truly preferred the silence to everything else.

Katanai clasped her wrist. She then looked at the sky. It was so peaceful out... She then made the handsign once more. She muttered, "cat's eye". She then, before she could change the sign and open her eyes, to unleash the jutsu, decided to stop. She didn't want to ruin all the sweetness of the day with her stupid jutsu.
She then decided to talk. She didn't really know what to say. She then just said to bring up conversation, "You know...", she started quietly, "...it's really nice of you to walk with me... You're great company." She smiled. She finally got something out and was proud of that.
She looked at the grass ahead. It was coated in a fresh powder-coat of snow. She smiled, although she was begining to feel the winter chill. She shivered herself. She then stepped closer to Seishiro. She was told that that would help them keep warm.

An icy wind whipped through the trees, biting at his neck and brushing the hair from his face and collar bone. The urge to shudder at the feeling was repressed: something very forced on his part. Cold. Sickly and cold creature that he was. Ready to go home. He couldn't even remember the reason he had fled the house. Just another argument that had taken place, most likely.
"'Great company,'" she had called him. He almost laughed at the words. Inaccurate and fake. Who was she to know whether he was being honest or not?
She didn't.
Grimacing slightly as she edged closer, he fought ever desire to step away. He didn't know her. He didn't want to know her. Because once he was stripped past the cold personality of his exterior...he wouldn't be defenseless as other people were. Quite the opposite. and then what do people think when they see your true self shining like a beacon?

Katanai felt his presence to become a bit skittish as she moved closer. She then moved back away. She could hear his thoughts as he laughed at every word she just said. She thought angrily to herself, *If he's going to mock me in his thoughts.... I might as well bring back my everyday attitude....*
She suddenly was troubled she decided that the only way to figure things out was to have a conversation with her inner self.
~~inner conversation~ Inner Kat: What seems to be your problem? Kat: Did you do something to me? Why am I unable to cop my attitude?! Inner Kat: I didn't do anything to your attitude! I've been waiting for you to fly off the handle! Kat: Same here. I just can't seem to bring out my inner anguish and such today! What's wrong with me? Inner Kat: Do you like him? Kat: No. Inner Kat: Are you sure? Kat: Pretty sure. I don't feel any differently about him than the other girl i met here in the park. You know that. Inner Kat: I know... I just like to try to torture you. ^^ Kat: ... I can tell... Inner Kat: See, your problem is that you are not used to having people be so quiet around you. Just act as if he were talking so much you can't stand him! Kat: That Actually Makes Sense! Thanks!
~conversation ends~
Kat decided to take her own advice. She would give him a chance or two to talk and then, she would be herself. She then sighed as she clasped her wrist once more, but this time, her forlorn look was exchanged for a smirk and her usual self-confidence.
