Katanai sighed. The coldness was surrounding her. Night time in the middle of the winter was always quite cold--some nights even more bone-chilling than others. The frigid winter chill had began to worm its way into her blood--turning her bones into marrow-filled ice.
She shrugged it off. Aurora, noticing her master as she began to freeze over, jumped onto Kat's shoulder. This helped...but not by too much. She just stroked the small black creature, as to thank her for her attempt to help.
Katanai glanced up at her escort. He was being quite quiet. She didn't blame him. Her words seemed to blow away with the cold night air as well. It was a rare occasion when she lost her words. Today seemed to be some sort of an off day for her.
*Why am I forbidding myself from being ignorent? I can usually do so without any thought!* She was truly confused. She felt that she could not be her usual stubborn self in front of him. *I suppose I owe him after I lost control of my Kekkie Genkai...again* She thought.
Finally thinking of something to say, no matter how tacky and stupid it was, she spat out, "Thanks again for walking me home..." She didn't know what else really to say. The conversation seemed to have died quite a while ago.
Yet another snow flake fell. *Gr... I hate the snow* she thought testily. She usually payed it no notice but tonight, it seemed to be falling as if they were small, white meteors that had strange little creatures on them--telling Katanai to hate them, despise them, loath them completely. She then looked at Aurora and Seishiro, and declared it worth while. *It's been a while since I made friends... I suppose its for my own social good.* Inconspicuously, she nodded, agreeing with her thoughts.
Tucking a fallen strand of her silver hair behind her ear, she began to ponder why she decided to go to the park that day. Destiny...? No...that was a stupid thought... The corner of her mouth turned up wards as she thought out the ACTUAL reason: Just Because. 'Cause, For no reason, for the hell of it--all ways to state the reason she had gone to the park on a blustery winter day such as that.
She then looked at her small, black cat. She noticed that she had fallen asleep on her shoulder. It was kinda cute. She felt the warmth of her fur and smiled. The cat began to purr, increasing Katanai's happiness. Her good mood returned and warmed her spirit up along with it.

There was a rustling sound among the trees, escalating to a purring roar as the breeze swelled, become a hard blasting wind. A shiver was sent through Seishiro’s skin, tiny bumps of warmth popping up in his flesh while his muscles twitched uncomfortably, uncontrollable. Tremors of movement trickling through his body with each miniature gust contained by the constant airstream. Adding to the chill in the air were the miniscule drops of softened ice that fell from the sky, pricking at the body like hundreds of needles. He knew they were there, nestling themselves in his long hair, gracing his eyelashes, blending into the whiteness of himself. Hard to believe that he could become any lighter in color. But upon a slight check, his hands were nearing transparency, the veins a glistening blue beneath their covering. He couldn’t wait to get back home and go to bed.
At least there it was warm.
A lovely thought, curling up beneath a nicely quilted blanket, holding a book at the tip of his nose with a flashlight aimed carefully at the pages so as to keep the entirety of his body in a small, concentrated area. Suffocating as it would be, it was the most comfortable, not letting the cold air touch his fragile skin. He would remain in that tight ball for as long as possible while the wind howled, sipping away at a warmed bottled tea, nibbling at crackers or some other snack. For it was simple pleasure, eating and drinking while reading a good story in the shadows and comfort of his own space. Enjoyment to the full.
A room of one’s own.
A place of one’s own.
Yes. It was such a simple pleasure.
Glancing over at Katanai for the first time in minutes (and minutes are quite a long time when a person is rather cold and in the midst of snow fall), he could sense her discomfort at being in such a position. Out in the cold, of course. With snow. Thinking about it, he really couldn’t blame her. She was part cat, after all, and therefore should hate water whatever form it came in. But there was nothing he could do to ease that discomfort. He was simply incapable. He wouldn’t offer his coat, for he was using it. Gentleman he wasn’t. And even if he was, he wouldn’t give up his coat under such circumstances. Unless, of course, he felt for the person. Truly felt for her. Wanted to spend his whole life with her and was willing to give up just about anything for her.
D*amn it. If he ever wound up in a situation like that, he’d kill himself first. Who in their right mind would ever want to fall in love like that? So it was settled. He was determined to have no romantic interest in a person whatsoever. No desire. No point.

Katanai lowered her gaze. She had to try to make out where she was walking. The snow level increased and was not helping her vision. Her silver hair was not crystal white--and very wet. She now knew exactly why all cats/cat girls hated the snow.
Aurora remained on Katanai's shoulder. She let out a weak "meow", as to say, "I can't see and am worried..." Katanai was a bit relieved to know that her dear companion was safe upon her shoulder. She stroked the cat and said softly, under her breath so only the cat could hear, "Me too....but don't worry."
She could hardly spit out 'don't worry' though. She was frightened as well. She wished that she were back in her warm home. Then, she remembered that once she was home, she would be all alone. The empty rooms of where her parents and the occasional cousins had slept, the kitchen, once filled with the scent of homemade meals, the warmth of knowing one another's presence--it had all vanished quite some time ago. The thoughts of this even made her feel ill.
Her hands, now as numb as if frost-bitten, were quivering. Suddenly, she looked to her side. She saw a pair of eyes, nearly the same color as hers. She could hardly tell that Seishiro existed in their current state. She knew that if it weren't for her exceptional cat-like vision, that she would not have been able to see him at all.
Katanai was slightly comforted by his presence, but it didn't make the world completely better. She longed for the warmth of the indoors, the warmth of a family. She felt that her life, figuratively, since her parent's murder, was like the weather--lonely, cold, and empty of all feeling. She knew that friendship was the only way to comfort the blows, but was still hesitant to accept that.
She sensed that they were approaching her house, or would be in around five or ten minutes, when the snow picked up even more. She could not see anything--not even the comforting gaze of Seishiro's eyes. She became a bit worried. She placed one hand on top of Aurora, who was shaking uncontrollably. *She's sick!* Kat thought as tears began to gather eyes. She quickly wiped away the tears, knowing that they might freeze upon her cheeks, causing her to chill more.
She reached for her sleeves, which could be removed. She tore their Velcro that held them in the form of sleeves. Swiftly moving, she attached one end of the first's Velcro to the opposite of the other's. She placed it over the cat, who's fur was on edge and now seemed white--although she was a black cat.
She folded her arms together, seeking warmth. She then said in a louder-than-normal tone, as to talk over the blustering winds, "It's a blizzard." She could hardly stand snow as it was!
She tried not to think of her small cat's illness, but she could not ignore the vibration of shivering on her shoulder. She then grasped the small cat, "blanket" and all, and placed her in her arms. "It'll be alright." she said softly. But in all actuality, even though she was a veterinary assistant, Katanai was not sure that it would be alright. She was more worried than the cat, most likely. Caring not of herself at the moment, she just offered prayers in her mind for the animal's safety.

Cold. How cold it was in that winter wonderland of breezy frost and flying ice. Striking flesh and drawing forth pangs of weariness, lack of strength. It was not enjoyable in the least, shivering nonstop. But he could not pause. Could not rest. For the storm increased in intensity, wind howling and moaning consistently, flurries rushing through the sky though they had no place to go. For sure if he stopped in his stride, he would not move again. He would not be able to bring himself to take another step. And she would be lost in the windy place without him for what little protection he might be able to offer. He felt the chill in his bones knowing this. The thought keeping him walking with eager anticipation of shelter. He could return her to the place she dwelled before continuing on to his own place.
Indeed, it was very cold.
‘Let it be close,’ he prayed, almost in a groveling thought, ‘Please let it be close.
Seishiro could just barely hear the voice of Katanai over the natural screams in the air. Muffled. But by the syllables and slight panic in her voice, he figured she was commenting on the storm. Calling it…what was the word? A blizzard? Well no duh. Anyone with a brain to think or eyes to see should have been able to see that clearly.
Never mind propriety or kindness at this point. His actions were purely selfish as he reached to the side, grabbing hold of the girl’s arm, and pulled her closer. It was not a nicety. It was not protection. She equaled warmth, and it was simple logic that standing closer than they had been would be far more beneficial to the both of them. Honestly he didn’t like the idea much. But it was far better than freezing in exhaustion. He felt as though they were going in circles. Getting nowhere.
D*mn.
Leaning his head down, he spoke into her ear, “Are we close to your house?” By gods, he wished they were. He wouldn’t ask to come in and warm his frozen bones. It was rude. And rudeness without cause was unacceptable in his world. So such a suggestion was out of the question. But when the thought hit him, he almost stopped in his tracks. He had no idea where he was. How on earth was he ever going to get home at that rate?
‘What a dilemma,’ he was forced to admit, and he vocally cursed his frustration of the situation. Loudly at that, not caring whether or not Katanai heard him at this rate. If she did, it didn’t matter. If she didn’t, even better.
A layer of frost had formed on his face, the mist of his breath icing over immediately as the wind gathered around it, directing it back towards his skin. And it was uncomfortable, though there was no way for him to prevent it. Unpleasant. And unwanted. Why the hell was there a blizzard? He could understand the winter storms, but he would have caught the forecast earlier had it been predicted (as most often were). This one must be a freak of a storm then, striking without purpose or warning.
How inconvenient.

Katanai looked at the ground once more, making sure that she was not going to fall in to some sort of frigid lake. This kind of thing was always a possibly with Katanai, being she was so clumsy. Soon, she was seized by the arm.
Warmth. Katanai felt herself become that small bit warmer as Seishiro had pulled her closer. She figured that his logic was to keep warm. She supposed that two shivering people would give more heat than one shivering person.
Still holding Aurora, Katanai wondered if her cat would make the journey home okay. “Are we close to your house?” Making a familiar hand sign, she called out (softy), "Cat's Eye." She re-opened her eyes, which were now gleaming red. She looked ahead. {Not only did this technique allow Kat to read minds, but allowed her to see clearer. CAT'S EYE is the perfect name for the jutsu. ^^} Katanai could see quite well now. She spotted her house. *Thank God!* Katanai felt like exclaiming.
Before she got the chance to say anything, Katanai could hear Seishiro cursing--quite loudly at that. Frankly, she didn't blame him, for she, too, was ready to burst out in curses. She then said loudly and as clearly as she could, "We're here. I'm sorry for all the trouble." Katanai wasn't as much sorry for the trouble as she was for the escort home. She usually didn't care if she went home alone or with someone, but in this case, with the weather so terrible, Katanai was actually grateful.
The snow picked up it's pace. She shivered, trying to huddle closer. She usually couldn't really bare to be this close to a person but in this case, she found close contact better than becoming a corpse of ice. She felt powerless to the storm.
Although Katanai could take on any gym class opponent, face any case of illness seen in a Vet's office, and even battle out her own illness, the one thing that made a person such as her feel so weak was nature. Snow, rain, sleet, hail--all of it was terrible to face off too. Katanai found mother nature to be her most powerful opponent.
Katanai began to feel weak in the heavy breeze and pressure of the blizzard. She felt as if she could fall over--just lay there-- right on the snow. She felt as if she could just fall into a spell of dizziness and unconsciousness. Of course, she forbid herself from doing so. Katanai knew good and well that as soon as she fell over unconscious in this weather, she would die in a period of minutes.

Finally. Standing out in such weather was harmful to one’s health, physical and mental. Though he did wonder what it would be like to freeze to death at a time like this. Probably very peaceful. Just falling into a deep sleep as a false warmth washed over him. Without pain. What a morbid thought, reflecting on death. Not that it really mattered to him. Just another event on the road of life. The ending stone. And he wouldn’t mind having died there, though remaining alive was more desirable. There were plenty of things that he regretted in his life, but they were in the past and therefore not worth worrying over. Should he die, it would be full of regrets. But he had nothing to live for. No dreams. Just live to the fullest. Treat everything as though it were the last.
Thank god Katanai spoke up when she did. He was on the verge of asking the question again. But they were there, she informed him. But through the snow, he couldn’t help but wonder how she managed to locate the building. Ah. That technique probably. The one that read minds. It made sense. Good. It meant that he could drop her off and return to his own house quickly, wherever it was. He had not idea how to get from her house to his. Whatever. He’d had unluckier days. It was only a matter of time before he would feel the familiar setting around him and know that he was nearing his own house.
Or maybe he’d make a burrow and wait out the storm in his little den.
“Good,” he responded at last, “Make sure to lock you door and all the windows when you get inside. Stay warm.”
Simple advice. He knew it was unneeded, but courtesy required that he make sure she remain safe even indoors. How wonderful that just a theory should never apply to the person who is being courteous. Because the world was ungrateful, selfish, greedy. And yes, he fell into those categories just like the rest. But at least he tried to be polite. Screw it. He probably wouldn’t even see this girl ever again. No point. Actually, fate had a strange way of playing with a person. So it was completely possible that they would run into each other again in the near future. He would never have said that he was looking forward to it. But he’d be lying should he say that he wasn’t looking forward to it. Seishiro was apathetic towards her in every way.
After all, nothing would be gained on either side from a friendship between them. Just a way to beat the loneliness. In the end, no one meant anything to the people around them.

“Good. Make sure to lock you door and all the windows when you get inside. Stay warm.”
Katanai thought about listening to him speak. She really couldn't care less what he was saying at the present moment. She sighed. Her chakra pressed in her eyes, wracking at the back of her head. It was sore, but she had to press that hard.
Thoughts. She could hear them without thinking about it. She shrugged them off, not listening, as she had not listened to him. Ignorance. Katanai was glad she had it for once, it made it easier for her to ignore him, and not listen in to his mind. She could see her door draw nearer and nearer.
She reached forward. The door handle was cold as ice. So was her hand. She felt as if frostbitten. She quickly opened it.
Light! Warmth! The snow gone!
What wonders there were to treasure indoors. Yet, she kept the door open, looking at him. She was about to say her farewells and slam the door on him, as not to let the heat escape. She instead, decided to return his kindness.
"Thank you for taking me here, Seishiro-kun. Would you like to come in and wait for the snow to die down a bit before you go to your home? It's awful out there."
Her statements were point-blank and obvious. *it's awful out there*, DUH! They had just attempted to trudge through it! What a stupidly obvious thing to say. Then again, if nothing more, Kat was Captain obvious. Not to mention the queen of irony. She really didn't care.
She allowed Aurora to escape from her arms. The cat jumped down softly, escaping to a chair with a warm cushion and a blanket surrounding where she lay down. Wet and trembling, the cat seemed to wait, knowing that her master would come through and treat her--make her well again.
Sighing, Katanai waited on the inside of the door. She hated snow now more than ever. She wanted more than ever to tend to her cat, but found it necessary to wait for his response. *Please hurry up and answer! D*mn it... Poor Aurora...* She crossed her arms, clinging to the warmth. She didn't let her kind expression break. She smiled slightly, still waiting....

“No thank you,” Seishiro replied. All the laws of society and courtesy told him that it would be rude to accept hospitality from this girl at the moment. Frankly because the two people had just met. Honestly, he thought she should me more intelligent that that. Even if she thought herself an excellent judge of character (which he didn’t know whether or not she did) there was no guarantee that he wasn’t a dangerous character or would have no problem harming her in some way. He was male after all. And the average male had more physical strength than the average female. So the studies said.
But he had no intention of hurting her. He didn’t care enough. But he also had no intention of staying either. Though he had the idea that it was, in fact, a matter of pride that drove him away. Or morality. Either way, it didn’t matter.
“I don’t know much about animals, but I suggest getting your pet to the vet soon. Keep her plenty warm until then as well. Good day.”
He turned, stepped away from the door and began his disappearance into the blustery land. Snow cutting across his skin, the crunch beneath his feet was drowned out by the consistent howling in his ears. Ignore it. Just ignore the icy surroundings and focus on the steps. One at a time. Move forward. Just one step towards the destination. Concentrate on what’s ahead, knowing that life and warmth is there.
D*amn it. Why didn’t he accept the invitation to wait out the storm at Katanai’s place?
Right. Pride.
He didn’t quite know what to make out of her. Misarashi Katanai. Cat girl. Of all the animals. He really couldn’t say that they were his favorite. He preferred the smaller ones. Rodents. Birds. But she was human, which made all the difference. Human though deformed, mutated…he wondered what her life could be like. Far different than his. After all, he had no problems aside from his pigment deficiency, so he wasn’t nearly so much of a freak as she could be considered. God, what was he thinking? Looking past the ears and tail, it was obvious she was just another girl. Nothing impressive. Nothing important.
And yet he had opened up to her a bit.
Of course, that was pity taking hold of him. Anyone who appeared to be abused in some sense of the word he tended to treat different. Reveal a slight bit more of his heart to them than normal. Because he wanted to feel better about himself. Selfishness. He could care less about what happened to them. By all means, throw their lives away because of their misfortune. He would still be there. Laughing. Because such people were too weak to keep living.
What a thought. He was such a bastard.
Once again, he set his mind towards the goal. Home. A wonderful destination. Push all other things aside. He continued alone on that snowy road, fading away from everything behind him in that lonesome storm. And for a spilt second, a glimmer of a smile graced his lips as he closed his eyes, breathing in the filth and freshness of the world around him.

“No thank you.”
That's all he could say? No reason? Katanai rolled her eyes, thinking how stupid he was. She just signed aloud and said, a bit coldly, "Well, okay then... Have fun freezing to death..." She waited for a reply. Nothing. She figured that that was all she would receive. What an odd boy.
“I don’t know much about animals, but I suggest getting your pet to the vet soon. Keep her plenty warm until then as well. Good day.”
She felt like slapping him across the face. How dare he say anything about Aurora?! She was infuriated. She was a veterinary assistant, D*mn it! Trying to extinguish the flames that arose within her, she reminded herself that Seishiro must have had absolutely no idea about her being a vet-in-training. She sighed, once again.
Finally returning to her stubborn self, in full, she sassed, "No, you don't know much about animals.... Well, good bye." She closed the door not too long after. Finally, she returned to her true self, a sharp-tongued b*tch.
Finally. All that drama and pressure was over with. All that was left to do was to bundle up and care for Aurora. First things first, Katanai lit the wood that she had set in the fireplace before she had left. She smiled softly. She must have sensed the storm coming, and instinctively put the logs there. The morning was quite beautiful. Who knew that it would be like that in the evening. Now that the fire was lit, Katanai quickly put a pot on a pot of coffee and began to warm some milk for her ill cat.
This was much more work than Kat had planned, but it was going to be worth it in the end. She could tell that much, even through her lazy instinct. The microwave beeped. She instantly took the milk out of the warm chamber and poured it in a saucer. "Careful, Aurora-Nii-chan. It's hot."
Seeing that Aurora was sound asleep on a warm chair, Katanai sat down herself, after pouring herself a cup of coffee. She looked out the window. She saw a small water fountain that had rested outside her neighbor's house. She closed the curtains. "Lakes. That's what got me into all this drama," Katanai said, with a bitter tone. "I won't forget tonight, but it won't be among my pleasant memories." She turned off the outdoor light. Warmth completely surrounded her. With h roll of her eyes, Katanai firmly stated that she hated water even more now. All thanks to that one Lake...
{I suppose.... END POST....}
That wasn't TOO terrible. XD Although, I feel I was a bit OOC a couple of times. All in all, good post. XD
